In 2017, I was exploring the deepest depths of a unique psychedelic wave when the first lyrics appeared floating in the front of my mind. Written down quickly on a leaf I found in the forest, these words were later revealed to max hackl (daimyo; south east $amurais) and he used to them to initiate a journey of which the next chapter is presented before you today. BEHOLD: SUSTANANCE Unknown to me at the time, the true work surrounding SUSTANANCE (unthought-of at this point) began in November 2017 when the tracks PROMETHEUS and POUNDS were engineered by Max. Together with the High Comish, Karma22viii, and ACNG, as well as other members of the Okanagan music community, we found ourselves gazing at the foothills of audible greatness. We didn’t know if we could climb this mountain just yet, but we knew better than to have regrets later on in life. But alas, it was not meant to be. The untimely passing of daimyo (September 3rd, 2018, R.I.P) dealt our collective souls a staggering blow. So much had been planned and said. I told him I would see him in Singapore so very soon and we’d make more tracks then. We are still in the process of recovery and time felt warped. Slowly, a year passed and a realization hit me that there was a clock in the Okanagan about to run out. A tape that had been promised. But it couldn’t be just any tape. It was to channel the spirit that had got us here in the first place. And so I was thrust into MIXTAPE MODE in September 2019. SUSTANANCE was created to embody the dinner table and the people that I was lucky enough to have consistently in my life. The 14 tracks and their diversity symbolize the many meals that one would bring to the table for the great end-of-the-year potluck. They acknowledge the different influences and cultures responsible for shaping me into the Creative I am today. For this project, I decided it was imperative to include all those people I’ve enjoyed my time in university with. From the graphic design, to the audio-engineering, the audiovisual work as well as the A&R offered by my closest friends, SUSTANANCE is a collaborative statement of the highest order I could possibly put out. The visual artists, audio-engineers and features contributing towards the album, from KARMA22VIII, ACNG, High Comish, Daimyo, GAVN, Edge, Nyshaya, Kazu, Kelly Lu, MONTAE X., Aioode, as well as slatesubco represent key ingredients in each meal that are required for a well-balanced and sensory-elevating experience. The plating and art are championed by the likes of Hannah Blyth, Garvin Le Blanc and Joji Singh. It took 12 months of hard work and today I’m truly proud to be able to reveal this tape after countless hours of collaborations, creative processing and major setbacks. 2020 was one hell of a year. To the entirety of my friends, it was an absolute privilege to be able to meet you all. I am honoured to be able to spend these last five years with all of you. I hope you will accept SUSTANANCE as a souvenir from me as we part and move forward in our lives. I hope you appreciate the richness of the different styles employed and vibe with the many moods that blossom forth. Be kind to those around you. WHO IS SUSTA?

SUSTA is a Pakistani-Canadian recording artist who immigrated from Karachi, Pakistan to BC, Canada in 2015. Susta defies genres, and as seen on the album Sustanance, he breaks bounds with all sorts of music, ranging from Pop, Trap, Hip-Hop, R&B, to Drill, EDM, Soul, and Indie.

Inspired by artists like 21 Savage, Offset, Young Thug, Takeoff, J. Cole, NAV, Kendrick Lamar, Future, Saba, Lil Baby, Daft Punk, bbno$, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Cardi B, DaBaby, Russ, Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, Dr. Dre, Travis Scott, and Kanye West, Susta brings his South Asian sound to the Canadian and Pakistani Rap/Pop/Hip-Hop/R&B culture.

At the age of 21, Susta first began experimenting with sound in his Junior year in university as Max Hackl AKA Daimyo introduced him with the tracks FEGI, Talibanned, PROMETHEUS & POUNDS, working with Karma22viii, ACNG, Gavin Lemon and High Comish alongside the collective known as the South East $amurais, releasing money music under the ESSENTIAL HARASSMENT tag.

Now based in Vancouver, Canada, the Okanagan in British Columbia was Susta's original home ground, where he met various artists like bbno$, Edge, Post-Modern Connection, Jon Oshone, Ad Astra, Nate Le, Betta Boyz, 99PROBLEMS, Wylson, and MONTAE X. exploring the sonic playgrounds of the Okanagan Valley.
